Gateway Stars – in collaboration with Harrys Hub

On Monday 31st March we held our first Gateway Stars session; a relaxed and welcoming environment was created for both teens with autism and their parents during a joint session that combined both socialising and support. The event saw a fantastic turnout of participants, and the energy in the room was filled with both fun and heartfelt conversations.
The youth group gathered in an open, inclusive space designed to foster social connections. They engaged in a variety of activities, ensuring there was something for everyone. Several teens found themselves immersed in friendly competition and collaboration in a video game corner, while others gravitated towards the pool tables for a bit of relaxed but engaging play. There was also an exciting Dungeons & Dragons campaign running, where teens used their imaginations to embark on epic quests. Board games offered an additional opportunity for bonding, as players worked together or competed for the win in a more strategic setting. The session provided an opportunity for teens to connect with others in a comfortable, non-pressured setting.
In a separate area, the parents gathered for a support group, where they could share their personal journeys raising children with autism. Harrys Hub hosted the parents’ session which provided a powerful space for connection and understanding. Parents shared stories of their challenges, triumphs, and the unique experiences of raising a child with autism. Through open conversation, many found solace in the collective wisdom of the group. Harrys Hub offered a wealth of advice on navigating educational systems, finding resources for therapy and support, and building community connections. Parents also discussed practical strategies that have helped their families, offering a valuable support network that fostered empathy and encouragement.
The session provided a safe space for both teens and parents to relax, have fun, and gain support. The collaborative nature of the event—blending social time for the teens with emotional and practical support for parents—helped create an inclusive environment where both groups could feel heard, understood, and uplifted. Everyone left the session feeling positive, with new connections made and fresh perspectives shared.
This session will now be held regularly on the last Monday of every month from 5 to 7 PM, offering an ongoing opportunity for both the teens and parents to participate. Whether for fun, support, or both, these sessions promise to be a valuable resource for all involved.
This gathering not only helped foster stronger bonds within the autism community but also allowed everyone to experience a sense of belonging, support, and shared understanding.
