MUSKAAN (URDU FOR SMILE/LAUGHTER)

Gateway are very proud to offer a single sex service for ladies with mild to complex learning disabilities, the only one in the local borough.

Muskaan was first established in 2006 and was set up as a result from research we did to meet specific cultural needs. The group has grown considerably since then with the ladies attending the service throughout the week, which runs over 5 days.

Muskaan are based at Independence House and benefit from the social buzz that is constant there. The Muskaan ladies enjoy a wide variety of activities, some we access in the local community e.g Aqua fit,  cinema trips , hydrotherapy and going to the gym and some activities are more home-grown and created by the ladies eg, Asian cookery, art and craft, dance and drama group.

Muskaan are a very pro-active group who are always busy and out and about, this promotes their independence and life skills.

The ladies at Muskaan are encouraged to help promote their daily living skills and relationships. The service offered is a very personal one that is tailor made to meet each individuals needs.
